Georgia Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones made it official Tuesday—he’s running for Governor, and he’s bringing President Trump’s agenda with him.
Jones announced his campaign in a video posted to X and wasted no time linking himself to the 45th president, declaring, “I’ve also fought to deliver President Trump’s agenda here in Georgia from day one.” Jones was an early Trump campaign co-chair and has remained closely aligned with the former president.
He’s kicking off his bid with a hefty $10 million self-loan and a leadership committee boasting at least $14.3 million in cash. That war chest puts him far ahead of his closest Republican competitor, Attorney General Chris Carr, who’s brought in $3.5 million so far. And while Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene hasn’t officially entered the race, she hasn’t ruled it out either.
Jones is running on what he’s calling a “bold game plan,” which includes eliminating the state income tax, pushing for the death penalty for fentanyl dealers, and cracking down on illegal immigration.
The Lieutenant Governor also brings private-sector experience from his family business, Jones Petroleum, and a company he founded—JP Capital & Insurance. With Trump-style policies, millions in the bank, and name ID, Jones’ entry is set to shake up Georgia’s GOP primary.
