Canadian vs. American: Local High School Football Game Pits Two Countries Against Each Other
As the Mary Persons High School football team in Forsyth finalized its preseason schedule, they were still a game short and in need of another opponent. An unexpected applicant solved their problem.

The Mary Persons Bulldogs, under the leadership of Head Coach Brian Nelson, were struggling to find a tenth competitor to round out their line-up for the forthcoming season when an email from a foreign team solved their issue.

Coach Nelson stumbled upon a communication from a Canadian team expressing interest in traveling to the States to participate in a match against an American team. The New Westminster Secondary School, in British Columbia, Vancouver, was looking for an American team to play against their football team, the Hyacks.

Hyacks coach Andrew McKechnie explained, “We started reaching out to different areas that we thought we could take our team to, that we could immerse them in football culture, and let’s be honest, when you talk about football culture, Georgia is like top two of the list, right?”

The Hyacks flew from Canada and landed in Georgia on Tuesday in preparation of the game. They hit the ground running, scheduling several practices, some during the hottest part of the day to help the team adjust to the brutal Georgia heat. While they hop to best the Bulldogs, Coach McKechnie explained that it was more about their players having the experience than about winning.

The Bulldogs will host the Hyacks at Dan Pitts Stadium in Forsyth tomorrow night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
