A Colquitt County woman, previously charged with murder, has been granted immunity after successfully claiming self-defense. Katelyn Ireland was also charged with possession of a firearm and aggravated assault. In 2022, Ireland shot and killed Jason McCollum, her roommate’s estranged husband.
Ireland now free following a judge’s decision to accept her self-defense claim. This decision led to the official closure of her case on July 1, 2024, as confirmed by the District Attorney for the Southern Judicial Circuit.
Throughout the legal proceedings, she maintained that her actions were in self-defense, a stance that the court eventually upheld, leading to her release and the dismissal of all charges against her​
