Google Algorithm Again Caught Playing Partisan Politics
The tech giant has a history of election interference and discrimination using online voter manipulation.

Georgia voters afraid of election interference were once again proven accurate.

Investigators at the Media Research Center have confirmed reports that Google manipulated their algorithm to promote Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris and suppress results related to former President Trump.

On July 31, Elon Musk and other users on X started noticing that users searching for “Donald Trump” or “trump rally” received Google results prominently featuring Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. Searches for Harris or related topics only turned up results featuring her name.

Google’s “knowledge panel” also featured more positive information regarding Harris than it did former President Trump.

According to investigations conducted by MRC, a Google search for “trump rally” returned results related to Kamala Harris’s rally in Atlanta.

“[Google] consistently manipulates data to achieve its political goal,” said MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider. “Yet again it appears to be altering its algorithms to feed the American people a positive narrative about one candidate while disseminating terrible accusations against the other.

Less than a week prior, Google’s search tool was cited by watchdog groups for suppressing content about the assassination attempt against former President Trump. This sparked immediate outcry from Republicans including Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) who pledged a Congressional investigation.

Google was criticized in 2022 by Senator Hawley (R-MO) who called out the search engine for censorship against Republicans in academic searches and for a Gmail filter that caused Republican emails to be labeled as junk while allowing Democratic campaign emails through.

In 2019, Google was accused of discriminating against employees based on their political views.

Search engines use algorithms help search engines eliminate “toxic” information according to Kris Ruby, an AI researcher and CEO of Ruby Media Group. Tech companies manipulate results by controlling what the algorithm defines as “toxic.” A federal judge ruled, on August 5th, that Google is an illegal monopoly

Google appears to have recalibrated its algorithm in response to public outcry.
