Houston County Softball Secures Region 2-5A Championship with Sweep Over Thomas County Central
The Lady Bears triumph on the road, and positioned themselves for a three-peat in the region.

The Houston County Lady Bears have once again proven their dominance in Region 2-AAAAA softball, sweeping Thomas County Central in a doubleheader to secure the region championship. The back-to-back victories, where Houston County outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 20-5, helped propel them to the top of the standings, ensuring their third consecutive region title.

Houston County’s path to victory was aided by a key series of events. Their sweep of Thomas County Central, combined with Veterans High School dropping two close games to Lee County (6-5 and 2-1), allowed the Lady Bears to flip the standings in their favor. Just two weeks ago, Veterans appeared to have a firm hold on the region lead, but Houston County’s relentless push helped them claim the top spot.

The journey to Columbus and the Super Regionals still awaits the Lady Bears, but they can now enjoy the fruits of another successful regular season. Houston County’s current record stands at 18-9 overall, with an 11-4 mark in the region. Veterans finishes second with a 10-5 region record, while Thomas County Central and Coffee round out the top four teams, earning the final playoff spots.

Despite their victory, the Lady Bears are not slowing down, with one regular-season game remaining before preparing for the next phase of competition.
