The City of Perry has postponed its highly anticipated International Festival due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Helene. Originally scheduled for September 28, the festival will now take place in March 2025, according to a statement from city officials.
The city cited public safety as the primary reason for the decision, noting that the festival’s large scale and the logistical challenges of setting up in advance, combined with the risk posed by the storm, made postponement necessary. With performers traveling from across the country, organizers decided it was best to reschedule rather than risk the safety of participants and attendees.
In a statement released by the city, officials expressed their regret over the cancellation but emphasized their commitment to ensuring the festival takes place under safer conditions next year. They also acknowledged that their focus would need to shift toward potential clean-up efforts and providing support in the aftermath of the hurricane.
The Perry International Festival, which aims to celebrate cultural diversity and heritage, was set to feature live music, interactive performances, and food and shopping opportunities representing more than 25 countries. The event, held annually in Historic Downtown Perry, is free and open to the public.
Organizers are looking forward to delivering a memorable experience when the event returns in March 2025.
