Scammers Pose as Columbus Radio Station, Targeting Local Business Owners
Fraudsters in Columbus impersonate a local radio station to deceive businesses into paying for fake advertising.

Business owners in Columbus are being targeted by scammers posing as representatives from a local radio station, offering fraudulent advertisement deals in exchange for money. The scheme has left some unsuspecting entrepreneurs at risk of losing money.

A local hairstylist, Alexis Dodson, shared her experience with the scam after receiving a suspicious phone call from someone claiming to be Justin Lee from Davis Broadcasting. The caller falsely informed Dodson that she had won free advertising on Foxie 105, a well-known radio station. Dodson was then encouraged to accept the offer immediately or pass it to another business.

As part of the ploy, the fraudster asked Dodson to provide a brief recorded message for use in the supposed ad. Shortly after, the caller demanded a small donation in exchange for airing the advertisement. Dodson, who was already familiar with the radio station, grew suspicious when the caller insisted on payment through alternative means, claiming the station was closed for in-person visits.

Vice President of Davis Broadcasting, Geniece Granville, confirmed that the calls did not come from their station, emphasizing that this method of soliciting business is not part of their operations. Granville explained that Davis Broadcasting maintains professional standards in all their dealings with local businesses, ensuring that their services are provided in a proper and trustworthy manner.

Granville also noted that this is not the first time Davis Broadcasting has heard about such scams. She recalled speaking with another concerned individual whose daughter had also been contacted by someone pretending to be a part of their sales team. Granville stressed that Davis Broadcasting would never ask for money in this manner, urging the community to stay vigilant against these types of fraudulent activities.

Local business owners are encouraged to verify the legitimacy of any advertising offers and to report any suspicious calls to authorities. Davis Broadcasting assures the public that they will continue to assist businesses professionally and transparently.
