Teen Arrested in Connection to December Homicide in Valdosta
A 16-year-old suspect has been charged with felony murder following a December shooting.

Valdosta police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the homicide of a 41-year-old man, which occurred in late December. The suspect, Damirie Washington, faces multiple felony charges, including murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and firearm possession during a felony.

Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 700 block of Stillwater Drive around 3:10 a.m. on December 30th, 2024. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim unresponsive on the ground near a vehicle. The man, who showed clear signs of trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington was identified during the investigation as being involved in the fatal shooting. Valdosta detectives obtained arrest warrants and tracked the suspect to Riverdale, Georgia. On January 14, 2025, officers from the Riverdale Police Department apprehended Washington during a response to a shoplifting incident at a Walmart.

Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan expressed gratitude for the collaboration between the two law enforcement agencies, noting that Washington’s arrest will allow him to face justice for his actions.
