Two More Counties Now Eligible for FEMA Disaster Assistance
Homeowners and renters impacted by Hurricane Helene can now apply for federal aid to cover damages and losses.

Residents in Brantley and Fulton counties who suffered uninsured damage or losses from Hurricane Helene are now eligible to apply for disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

This federal aid can provide help with essential needs, temporary housing, home repairs, and personal property losses. Additionally, assistance may cover other financial burdens caused by the storm’s impact.

Previously, 57 counties across Georgia were approved for FEMA aid: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Butts, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Columbia, Cook, Dodge, Echols, Effingham, Elbert, Emanuel, Evans, Glascock, Glynn, Hancock, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lanier, Laurens, Liberty, Lincoln, Long, Lowndes, McDuffie, Montgomery, Newton, Pierce, Rabun, Richmond, Screven, Tattnall, Telfair, Thomas, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Ware, Warren, Washington, Wayne and Wheeler. With the inclusion of Brantley and Fulton, residents across these areas now have access to FEMA resources aimed at recovery.

Those in need can apply for assistance through multiple channels. Applications are available online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA App, or by calling the FEMA Helpline at (800) 621-3362. Assistance is offered in multiple languages, and the helpline operates daily. Individuals may also visit local Disaster Recovery Centers for in-person help.

The deadline to submit an application is December 2nd, 2024.

Applicants should be prepared with necessary information, such as their contact number, the address of the damaged property, their Social Security number, and a list of losses incurred. Those opting for direct deposit will need to provide banking details. If insurance policies are involved, the policy number and insurance company or agent’s contact information will be required.

FEMA assistance cannot duplicate coverage provided by insurance. Individuals with homeowners, renters, or flood insurance are advised to file claims with their insurers first, as FEMA aid only covers unmet disaster-related needs.
